Why does sub-clock oscillator won't stop even SOSCCR.SOSTP is set to 1?

Latest Updated:08/09/2012

Question:

The sub-clock oscillator does not stop even when the sub-clock oscillator stop bit in the sub-clock oscillator control register (SOSCCR.SOSTP) is set to 1.

Answer:

To stop the sub-clock oscillator, set the following two bits as follows. Unless both settings are made, the sub-clock oscillator does not stop.
- Set the sub-clock oscillator stop bit in the sub-clock oscillator control register (SOSCCR.SOSTP) to 1 (sub-clock oscillator is stopped).
- Set the sub-clock oscillator control bit in RTC control register 3 (RCR3.RTCEN) to 0 (prohibiting input from the sub-clock oscillator).
Note that RCR3 is undefined after a reset.
