What should I do after I get Blinky running?

Ok, I just got Blinky running and now I'm interested in learning more. What should I do next?


One good next step is to run the Developer Examples design, available for the DK-S7G2 kit. This example has a console interface to several interesting SSP design demonstrations including ADC, Audio, DAC, AGT, GPT, CRC, Flash, QSPI, RTC and more. The Getting Started Guide is attached in the file at the end of this article.

The guide is also automatically downloaded to your Synergy Documentation folder when you create the Developer Examples design.

If you have Blinky running you should already have the tool chain working (Get Blinky working if you have not already. You can follow the steps shown in the SSP Users Guide to accomplish this). The Developer Examples design uses a USB CDC driver to connect to the on-chip Control Console. You will probably need to install the required USB Driver. Follow the below steps (for Windows 8.1, but also applicable to other Windows versions as well).

1) Download the SEEGER J-Link driver. This includes a USB CDC driver that can be used with the console. and select the Software for Windows download (V5.12g at the time of this post). Install the driver. This will make the USB CDC driver available for Windows to find during the Driver Update needed later.

2) In e2 studio create a new Synergy project, select the DK-S7G2 board and click next. Select the S7G2-DK Developer Examples and Click Finish.

3) Build the Project, connect two USB cables (as shown in the Getting Started Guide attached below) and power up the board.

4) Run the Debug Configuration and click the resume button twice to get the design running. At this point the design is expecting the USB CDC driver to respond. Open the device manager for Windows. If the driver has not already been associated, you will see and EL Composite device that needs a driver.

a:Right Click on EL Composite Device, select Browse my computer for driver software, then select Let me pick from a list of drivers on my computer.

b:Select Ports (Com and LPT) then click Next. Scroll down to SEGGER and select JLink CDC UART Port and click Next.

c:If a Warning pops up, you can Ignore it. A Success Window should open. Check the Device manager and a new entry under Ports should show up as JLink CDC UART with the associated COM port indicated. The driver is now ready.

5) Open Tera Term (or similar terminal emulator) and select the Serial connection and the Com port shown as associated in the Device Manager.

6) If you press a Carriage Return the Console Announcement and prompt should appear. The example application is now running. Refer to the Getting Started Guide for details on the included examples.
