How can register be accessed if it contains function bits that's unread

Latest Updated:03/15/2012

Question:

When a read-modify-write instruction such as BSET or BCLR is used to access a register, and that register contains function bits that cannot be read, how should the register be accessed?

Answer:

Bits could be unintentionally modified when using read-modify-write instructions. You should not use a read-modify-write instruction for this kind of register. For more details, please refer to Technical News TN-M16C-55-0006.
